Purpose
To acknowledge our role as caretakers and continue to work as one to accomplish our responsibility to the water quality, wildlife, the fishery and the land surrounding the Lake.
Where is Lake Utopia?
Lake Utopia is located in South-West New Brunswick just North-East of the Town of St. George in Charlotte County .
Lake Utopia is home to an abundance of plant and wildlife species including the provincial endemic and endangered Dwarf Rainbow Smelt.
Lake Utopia flows out to the Magaguadavic River via a natural canal, called fittingly the Canal .
For those who have an interest in numbers and facts, the watershed area draining into the Lake is 87.9 square kilometers and the Lake itself is 13.8 square kilometers.
The primary influences on water quality are residential and cottage development and the St. George Power dam located at the mouth of the Magaguadavic River.
Wetlands adjacent to the Lake provide habitat for countless plants and animals and filter out pollutants before they enter the Lake, improving water quality. The pristine condition of water in Lake Utopia attests the efficiency of this filtering system.
The major inlet on the north end of Lake Utopia is Mill Lake. The east end of the catchment area of Mill Lake also has a large bog where Colonel Stream runs through on the way to Trout Brook and ultimately into Lake Utopia.
Lake Utopia is unique in N.B., as it has an Outlet Delta at the Canal which drains the Lake to the River system. When heavy rains cause the River to rise, the Canal reverses becoming an Inlet to Lake Utopia.
